The increasing popularity and advances in the development of GIS in recent years has increased its use manifold in almost all fields of life generally and in geosciences particularly, due to the robust integration of spatial features and tabular data, spatial analysis capability, intelligent maps, and a geographic user interface to the databases. Exploration and Production (E&P) data management is evolving from an adjunct to the interpretation process to a focal point in the assetbased, multi disciplinary team approach to reservoir development.
E&P companies traditionally handle data in a linear manner. Data flows into the system from various sources, and is processed/ interpreted/modeled as required. Specially, seismic operations are becoming more difficult to manage due to complex acquisition methods, huge data volume and variety of formats.
OSDM, Open & Smart Data Management, is implemented for E&P data management, integration and visualization. The data submitted by various partners was previously managed manually and it was very difficult to find any desired data within a reasonable amount of time. Many other problems and issues were data redundancy, manual work, heterogeneous data formats, no standard nomenclature for data labeling, hard to retrieve required information, much efforts required even for simple reports, more personnel required for record management, difficult data mobilization, data ownership and responsibility not clearly defined, etc. These problems were studied extensively and an integrated digital PPDM (Public Petroleum Data Model) compliant database, Exploration & Production Management Solution was proposed. Major domains covered in it include lease information, wells information, production information, seismic and log data along with its front-end GIS.
OSDM, Open & Smart Data Management, is an Exploration & Production Data Management Solution. It is a web-enabled, GIS-based, integrated and comprehensive Data Management Solution for Petroleum industry. It is based primarily on ESRI ArcGIS technology and uses Open Source Data Model called Public Petroleum Data Model (PPDM). OSDM is closely integrated with industry standard G&G software and Data Stores like Open Works, Geo Frame, Finder, Petrel, Geolog, Kingdom, RMS, Jewel Suite, GoCAD, Interactive Petro physics, Excel, ESRI, iPoint, Google Earth etc. Its Application Integration Framework provides the ability to bring together the different tools on different platforms seamlessly.
